This accounting class could certainly gain pace. It looks like I have run out of cash flow and group consolidation exercises to keep me entertained (not!). I have likewise covered the whole of Ikea online catalogue and Marks & Spencer sale offers for this week. Last resort? LJ, which I have been ignoring in the last few weeks. Sorry, friends.

London is exciting but rather hot, weather-wise. Spending 10 hours per day indoors at UBS Graduate training does little to help avoid the outdoor “sauna”. Ironically, the air conditioner here is having a bit of a laugh, so half the class have a cold and walk around with nose tissues hanging down from their noses. Yours truly included. Thank goodness the loving mum had squeezed some nose drops into my tight 80kg before I left Riga.
The UBS Graduates crowd is absolutely superb. Great selection, my beloved HR! I am unaware of the new analysts’ groups at other banks, but I know for sure that I love ours. The Aussies are extremely friendly and natural. The Japanese are sweet, helpless and remarkably gregarious. The Germans speak nothing but German in a group – never mind when other nationalities are present. The Swedes look older than everybody else (except the Germans, of course) and sport cute accents. My favourite, however, is the Finnish girl, Emilia – so far, we have had nothing but perfect understanding. God bless Finland forever. Never realised Finns and Latvians shared so much in mentality. Anyone disagrees?

My flat has demonstrated some unexpected swings. London is full of noise in general, but it seems that most of it likes to hang out casually on Great Eastern Road that my windows proudly face. Add Sainsbury’s night lorries three meters outside my bedroom window, never-ending Stratford railways, double-decker passengers occasionally peeping into my room, and one could get rather frustrated. All of this is external disturbance, though. Seriously, I could bear anything, as long as my landlord keeps his promise of replacing my current carpets (having long passed the peak of their useful life) with laminate flooring. To add to the hassle, my BT Broadband pack came in this morning – more need for midnight set-ups, I obviously swim in abundant time!

I turned 23 last Thursday. It was good fun! Thanks to all peer analysts who came along to Smiths’ bar (in Smithfield) for a drink. Great company! Aussies rock.

So much to say, and so little space. Later!
